Adding to Show

For some time I have been wanting to add a few pieces to my existing art show. I am intending to make one painting on several smaller canvases. Currently, I have 20 6inX6in canvases. I want to join them to all be part of a larger painting but still be separate-kind of like puzzle. Now that I am trying, it is kind of hard to explain on paper. After thinking about the gallery space and the paintings overall, I feel like this idea will fit in nicely. It's crunch time now trying to get them finished in time to dry before my show.

Miriam Schapiro

For the most part I am still learning how to upload photos. Miriam Schapiro has been an influence of mine since my beginning painting course. I love her uses of patterns and colors. Her paintings seem very busy and maybe overwhelming but somehow they work, and I love it!

Commission

A former manager of mine has commissioned me to do a painting. She has expressed wanting a scene in which water touches a shore line so subtly as to hardly being able to distinguish land from sea. My ideas included using various tones of blues, greens and light browns.
This concept has taken me back to impressionist ideas and methods that have always intrigued me. In my own work, I have never pursued it in depth because of how easy it is to slip into "greeting card" looking paintings. Not to mention, the great artists that have come before us that have achieved great and varying achievements in impressionist work... it's a lot to live up to.
I decided to approach this request as a challenge. A challenge contrary to my typical sharp edges and gradually blended colors.
